5 Ways to Decorate for Winter

Tomorrow is December 1st, which means winter is coming! Is your home decked out for the season? Whether it be for the holidays or just to warm up your home’s interior design, here are five ways you can decorate with flair this winter:

Give it a frosty feel. Add some sparkle to your home decor with accent pillows and a crystalline chandelier to mimic the frost outside your front door. The will also add a glow to those typical dull months of the year.

Make it red. Red upholstery next to a glowing fireplace can warm up your home in an instant. This isn’t to say that you need to go out and purchase a whole new set of furniture this month. Instead, try slipcovers or extra plush, red pillows or throws to transform your room.

Switch up your wall art.
Whether you buy a new, snowy mural to hang on your wall or switch up your summertime photo frames, changing up your wall art is one way to slip into winter. For example, swap out your silver frame for a rustic, wood one (even if you’re framing a floral painting). This will give it that rustic feel that we love so much during the chilly months!

Bring in the metallics. When you decorate for winter, you probably think of the colors red and green. However, when you add touches of gold, silver, and bronze your winter decor will last you beyond the holidays. So break out the candle holders, vases, and other trinkets in more muted tones.

Create a winter arrangement. Dress up your dining room or entertainment space with a bouquet of white roses instead of red ones. This way, you won't have to worry about changing up the arrangement when the holidays pass. Pine is another alternative you can try that smells great too!

Tips for an Easy Thanksgiving Clean Up

Hosting a Thanksgiving feast this year? If cleaning and cooking has you feeling anxious, take a deep breath (and then another one). Below, we’ve put together a few quick and simple cleaning tips to help you prep for the best holiday yet:

Be proactive - When you start scrambling around trying to prepare for the big meal, the kitchen can get a bit messy. It can help to go around the entire kitchen prior to cooking and remove all the clutter and stains ahead of time (especially your open and stovetop)!

Organize the fridge - Stocking the fridge around Thanksgiving can seem daunting, so toss out old produce and other foods you haven’t touched in awhile. Chances are you won’t eat it, and let’s face it - you could certainly use the extra space!

Don’t procrastinate - Cooking a Thanksgiving feast can be especially time consuming, so don’t wait until the last minute to prepare your dinner and your dessert. Work a day or two ahead to make dinner rolls or even start preparing the gravy. By the time Thursday rolls around, you’ll have more time to greet guests and focus on the more essential details!

Use disposable containers - If your family and friends are planning to bring over a dish, ask them to use disposable containers. That way, you won’t have to worry about scraping out extra dishes and you can significantly cut back on cleaning time.

Why Buy When Interest Rates Are Low

We’ve nearly reached 2016 and interest rates are still low. Does that mean you should invest in a new property? The short answer is yes. But there’s more to it than that, and here’s why:

Mortgage rates are down.
When interest rates are low, it’s a perfect time to invest in real estate, especially if you’re a first time homebuyer. Although you will need to do a bit of financial planning and savings, when rates are low on a 30-year mortgage, you can enjoy the benefits the low interest rate conditions.

Loan payments are lower.
Income plays role in how much money you will be able to borrow, but so does interest rates. And the lower the interest rates, the less expensive your monthly payments will be.

Afford the home you want.
Taking advantage of lower interest rates now means you can afford that home you’ve always wanted. In missing this window of opportunity, you might not be able to afford that home anymore, as even the lowest rise in interest rates could mean higher loan payments.

More money for other investments.
If you buy when interest rates are low, you’re likely to have more money towards other investments. For example, save up for buying a car, or work towards paying off grad school loans or any credit card debt.

What are you waiting for? With low interest rates, your dream home is closer within reach! If you live in Connecticut and are looking for your first or forever home, come see what Copper Square has to offer. We have luxurious townhomes and duplexes available and offer a mix of New England charm and urban convenience.

When Should You Become a Homebuyer?

To rent or buy? The decision to become a homeowner is one of the most significant financial decisions you will make, so it’s important to know when the time is right. Although there are several factors involved in buying a home, below are three major signs you should take the leap:

You’ve worked out the finances. Buying a home is a big investment, so working out the numbers is the first step you want to take. Knowing how much money you bring home monthly, figuring out a budget for your down payment, and understanding mortgage will bring you one step closer to being ready. It also helps to learn the difference between how much you will pay a month for rent vs. for a new home and which best suits your financial needs. For example, did you know that U.S. renters pay 30 percent more of their monthly income on rent than homeowners pay on mortgages? Once you figure out what you can pay for, you can take the next step.

You’ve found “the one”. After you’ve figured out the finances, you can start searching for your new home. Upon looking for a home, you might stumble upon “the one”, which encompasses everything you wish for. You know you’ve found the home for you when it becomes all you think about. If this is the case, then you might want to consider making the investment.

You’re looking to settle down. Settling down is a big sign that you should become a homeowner. Whether that means you plan on living in one location for a couple of years or you plan on starting a family sometime soon, it will probably benefit you to invest in real estate. Wanting to settle down also means you are ready to take care of a home, which comes along with the excitement of decorating and changing it to meet your needs.

Are you thinking about making the big move from renting to buying? If so, why not check out Copper Square? 10 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Connecticut

Connecticut is one of the first original thirteen states and offers a perfect mix of New England charm and entertainment for everyone. It is known for many things including its breathtaking scenery and Ivy League schools. But there are many other reasons Connecticut is famous that you might not have known before:

  • In 1959 Connecticut was nicknamed “The Constitution State” by the Connecticut General Assembly due to its great political independence.

  • Back in 1703, Connecticut had two capitals: Hartford and New Haven. In 1875, Hartford remained the only capital.

  • The very first cotton gin was invented by Eli Whitney in New Haven, Connecticut.

  • The world's largest maritime museum, The Museum of America and the Sea, is in the village of Mystic.

  • Established in 1764 was “The Hartford Courant”, which is the oldest published newspaper in the U.S.

  • The first public art museum was established in Connecticut in 1842.

  • In 1877, the first telephone exchange occurred in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

  • The first traces of copper were discovered in Simsbury back in 1705.

  • The first U.S. medical diploma was granted in 1729 by Yale University.

  •  Foxwoods Resort Casino is the second largest casino in the U.S. And it’s in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

Connecticut has a significant history and a long list of places and sights to see. It also offers some of the country's most beautiful homes and neighborhoods! And right in the heart of it all is Copper Square, which features luxurious townhomes and duplexes. Call today at (203)778-4800 or visit our website for more information.

Why You Should Buy a Home

If you’re a first time homebuyer, chances are you have friends and family encouraging you to buy a home. Regardless, you might still be on the fence between buying and renting. Don't panic, we're here to help! Below a few reasons why you should take the leap and invest in your very own home:

Ownership. Pride of ownership is the number one reason you should buy a home. There’s a feeling of comfort and security you get when a home belongs to you that you can’t get when you move in and out of rentals.

Freedom of design. When you rent a home, it’s not always easy to decorate the way you’d like. But when you invest in a home, you have the freedom to make the space your own. And one of the advantages here is that you can choose what will make your home the best investment in the long run.

Deduct property taxes. Another advantage to owning a home is receiving tax breaks. Unlike renters, property owners can enjoy a deduction of home-related expenses. This includes reductions for house payment and home loans.

Increase privacy. Knowing that you can retreat to your own private space is another benefit of buying a home. With renting comes more shared space, but when you invest in your own home, you can have peace of mind knowing that you have a private place to retreat to at the end of the day.

Are you past the decision-making process and ready to search for your new home? Why not check out Copper Square? We offer luxurious townhomes and duplexes in the growing community of Bethel, CT!
