Arranging Your Patio Garden

Arbor Day is around the corner! It makes us wonder: could you imagine a home without plants? Plants breathe live into our homes and make us feel more connected with our beautiful environment. Spring is all about growing new life in our outdoor spaces - even on our backyard patios! Here are five containers you need for your patio garden this season:

Ceramic PotCeramic pots reflect in the sunlight and add a pop of color to your outdoor space. Try complementary colors such as a blue pot dedicated to a lemon tree (which, by the way, smell delicious).

Clementine Box
Eat your way through a juicy box of clementines, and when you’re finished, recycle the box for your patio. Not only are clementine boxes a perfect fit for flowers, but they also add a rustic appeal to your space. Plant hyacinths or sunflowers, which thrive best with lots of sun and water.

Tall Containers
Tall containers made of glass create an elegant appeal for your patio area. They’re ideal for tall bloom such as tulips and can be set as a centerpiece on your outdoor table or along the ledge of your patio.

Terrarium
A terrarium allows for a self-sufficient environment and is great for succulents and tropical plants.

Pitcher
Pitchers weren’t just made for lemonade - they also make great plant holders! Add dark colored plants for contrast, such as purple shamrock, and don’t forget to add drainage holes for watering.

The Best Time to Find Your Dream Home

Buying a home is one of the greatest achievements and milestones in your life. It doesn’t matter whether it’s your first home or your third - finding a new place to call yours leaves you with a good feeling and a sense of security.

Knowing you’re ready to move is one thing, but finding the right time is another. Although experts might suggest one of time the year over another, you might have a better experience around summer. Here’s why:

Pleasant weather
Imagine traveling through snow and ice for an open house - might not be the most enjoyable! Now picture yourself strolling from one home to another on a sunny afternoon. Sounds more enjoyable doesn’t it? When summer rolls around, not only does the search for a new home become easier, but it also gives you the opportunity to check out the neighborhood and become acquainted.

Beat the rush
Whether it be Spring Break or summer vacation, we’re coming closer to that time of year when many people are out of town, which means more opportunity for you. With many people on vacation this season, you’ll be able to beat the rush and focus on your needs without too much anxiety or competition.

Move in before winter
One of the biggest benefits of finding your dream home in summer? Moving in before the chilly weather! That’s right - finding your dream home even during the hottest time of the year means you’ll be able to enjoy the beautiful weather and fall foliage when October arrives - before the cold winter settles in.

If you’re thinking about finding your new dream home but aren’t sure when to begin, why not start now? At Copper Square, our maintenance-free living community offers townhomes and duplexes that homeowners can purchase. Our residents love the beautiful summer ambiance and breathtaking fall foliage right outside their windows!

Earth Day: Green Cleaning Your Home

Today is Earth Day! If you’re on a mission to tidy up your home over the weekend, now is the perfect time to be mindful of how we can do so in a way that not only keeps things clean, but also helps give back to the environment. Here are three green cleaning methods we recommend:

Eco-Friendly Products
Did you know that household poisonings are one of the greatest threats to our health? The biggest culprit of these poisonings is your household cleaners. So look under your sink, grab all the chemical cleaners you have, and read each label. You want to avoid bleach and other dangerous chemicals. A telltale sign that these products are full of chemicals is that they will display the words poison, danger, caution, or warning. Replace these products with non-toxic cleaners or natural ingredients such as white distilled vinegar, baking soda, and lemon.

Recycling
From morning newspapers to glass, take a moment to consider all the products in your home that can be recycled. Establish a bin for plastic items and dispose of them separately from other waste products.

Donate
Once spring cleaning is complete, create a box for donations. There are many clothing, kitchen, and home decor items that could find a second life somewhere else, with someone who needs it. Drop off your donations at a local Salvation Army or Goodwill. You could also try Craigslist or drop your items off with an artist who can reuse them. Not only will your home look less cluttered, but you’ll be doing your community a favor.

Copper Square is here to make spring cleaning easier for you. While you’re busy green cleaning the home, let us take care of the rest! Our outdoor cleaning and repairing means you’ll have more time for outdoor fun. If you haven’t checked out Copper Square yet, don’t wait!

Spring Cleaning: Organizing Your Closet

If getting ready in the morning is stressing you out, then you’re probably due for spring cleaning your closet! But we know that digging into the abyss of your closet can seem daunting. That’s why we’ve answered these two crucial questions - just to take some weight off your shoulders!

How do I make cleaning up easier?
  1. Create a playlist of your favorite tunes so zone into cleaning and out of distracting background noise
  2. Looking at everything you need to clean up all at once can be overwhelming and discouraging, so divide and conquer. By that, we mean organize everything into categories and work group by group.
  3. Make three piles: keep, toss, and donate. Toss into these boxes so you can fold and organize later.
  4. If one method of organizing didn't work for you in the past, don't feel restricted by old habits. Instead, find a new way to organize. Ask friends, neighbors, or do a quick Google search - one method will stand out!
What should I empty out?
These questions can help you determine which items to keep and which to either toss away or donate:
  1. Does it fit?
  2. Have I worn it in the last 12 months?
  3. Does this currently represent my style?
  4. Is this a “staple” item?
  5. If I was shopping now, would I purchase this?
  6. Do I feel good wearing it?
  7. Will I likely ever wear it again?
Feel like your closet is still bursting at the seams? At Copper Square, we offer spacious closets to make organizing easier! The best part is that our spacious, luxurious townhomes and duplexes come at an affordable price!

Decorating Your Patio for Summer

May is just a few weeks away, which means we’ll be spending more time outdoors! Decorating your outdoor space doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg! Decorate your porch or patio with these simple and affordable DIY ideas:

Setting Up Furniture

When it comes to creating a seating area for you and your guests, it’s important to think about how you want the space to be used. For example, if it’s just two of you, you might want to keep things simple: set up two wicker chairs and a cozy coffee table. If you’re big on hosting, swap out chairs for love seats and angle them towards each other. This will help create a spot for casual conversation.

Arranging Plants
Adding greenery to your outdoor patio is one of the more obvious ways of saying “hello, summer!” But there are many ways to accomplish this. We suggest freshening up your outdoor place with potted plants - easy to setup and easy to shift around. Add texture by switching up pots with small wagons. Spruce up the space with ferns, lavender, hydrangeas, sunflowers, and other colorful greens!

 Adding Light
Light up the night in these simple ways: stick tiny tiki torches in your potted plants, create an arrangement of lantern candles on your coffee table, or set up canopy string lights. For further inspiration and simple DIY projects for outdoor lighting, we turn to Pinterest!

Current Window Treatment Must-Dos

Windows are without a doubt a place for you to get creative in your home. Whether your intention is to disguise your window or enhance it, there are a few rules to consider:

Allow lots of light
Natural sunlight as all the rage nowadays. Everyone is trying to make their homes feel bigger and better. If you have large windows, this is the perfect opportunity to maximize the amount of existing natural light. Choose light colors and airy textures, while shying away from heavy window treatments. The light glow from outside will enter your home will soften and reflect off the adjacent walls.

Play with color
Vibrant colors will always be trending. If “bright and airy” doesn’t speak to you, then try bringing bright tones into the room. Your home is a canvas for you to use, so think outside the box. Select a color palette that will complement your wall colors and…

Change it up

Keep it seasonally appropriate. No one wants black curtain in the middle of summer - swap out for white or yellow! Change things up when you redecorate as well. If geometric patterns compliment the room, then choose window treatments that speak true to that style (and the same goes for any other style).

At Copper Square, we offer large windows and plenty of sunlight! We provide the design and leave the decorating up to you! Need a little help getting started? For more home decorating tips, connect with us on Facebook and Twitter.
