Benefits of Natural Sunlight in Your Home

There’s almost nothing better than waking up and feeling the warm sun through your windows on a Saturday morning. Natural light is what makes us feel happy and refreshed. It also has the ability to sustain the safety of our homes, which can ultimately benefit our overall well being. From saving energy to promoting good health, here are a few of the many ways natural sunlight can benefit you and your home:

Saves energy. Natural sunlight is first and foremost an energy saver! Did you know that the natural light beaming through your windows can reduce the 47 percent of energy typically used in a home? This is because the lighting and temperature you try to control through means of electricity can actually be controlled through sunlight - less use of air conditioning and high hats.

Stunts mold growth. Another great benefit of natural sunlight in your home is that it helps to stunt the growth of mildew and mold, which can lead to a healthier living space for you and your family. Because mold and mildew thrives in dark, damp environments, sunlight has the ability to reverse this effect and keep your house fresh.

Provides Vitamin D. Vitamin D is an essential mineral that improves your immune system, body weight, and brain function. Believe it or not, daily exposure to sunlight is the number one way that you can receive an ample amount of vitamin D, so opening up the shades in your home is a good idea!

Creates a larger space. Not only does natural light benefit your health and energy savings, but it also makes your home appear larger! It’s true, architects today use use natural light to illuminate the structure of a space - enhancing its natural beauty.

Looking to own all the benefits of natural sunlight in your home? At Copper Square, our townhomes and duplexes offer spacious rooms and large windows for plenty of natural sunlight! Our Models, Design Studio & Sales Center are now open. Call today at (203)778-4800 or visit our website for more information.

Smart Things to Do Before You Move

Signing the bottom line of the paperwork to your new home can be one of the most exciting moments in your life, but then the reality of packing up and moving settles in. While this process can seem like a stressful one, the last thing you should do is panic. Below, we’ve put together a list of expert tips that will ease your mind and make your move more seamless:

1. Give yourself time. Be smart when it comes to packing and don’t rush the process. Instead of procrastinating, write yourself a daily list of tasks to accomplish, and do this little by little, one day at a time. The more pressed for time you are, the more stressful your move can become.

2. Skip cardboard boxes.
Believe it or not, cardboard boxes can be more pricy than sturdy boxes with attachable lids. Not to mention, cardboard is worse for the environment. With that being said, switch to a more eco-friendly option before rounding up your items.

3. Don’t pack your clothes.
That’s right! If you hire professional movers, you’ll just be wasting your time. Why? Because movers will take your clothing from their hangers and transfer them to your new closet without you having to lift a finger!

4. Take the basics first. If you live within a short driving distance to your new home, take some basic necessities with you before the moving truck arrives to deliver everything else. This includes your toiletries, pajamas, and two days worth of clothes. Packing up a few basic items will help you feel a little more comfortable amongst the chaos of organizing boxes.

5. Look for the local spots. Familiarize yourself with your new neighborhood by walking or driving around the area. This is an ideal way to get introduced to resources, such as handymen, neighbors, and even babysitters if you have little ones at home.

5 Easy Ways to Make Your Bathroom Look Expensive

Looking to upgrade your bathroom on a budget? Style doesn’t have to come at a high price. Believe it or not, there are plenty of ways you can make your room look expensive without emptying your wallet. All it takes is a few upgrades to transform the entire space. And with summer being the best time for home improvement projects, we encourage you to get started now!

In our latest post, we showed you how to get a beach-inspired bathroom. Now we’d like to help you create your very own oasis without spending a fortune. Here are five ideas:

Add fluff. If you’re thinking about splurging on just one item, go with a new bath rug. Choosing a soft and fluffy rug can completely revamp your space and make it a comfortable place for you to retreat to after a long day.

Install dim lighting. Dim lighting can really set the mood for relaxation, which makes you feel like you’re walking into a luxurious spa. If you have overhead lights in your bathroom, you can always add dimmers or alternative options, like lamps and candles.

Add more seating. If you have the room to do so, add small stools or an ottoman to give your bathroom an elegant upgrade. This upscale idea will make your room feel so cozy that you won’t want to leave it. In fact, it’s the ideal place to relax and pamper yourself.

Decorate your walls. Adding a personal touch to your walls is a great way to upgrade your space because you don’t need much else. A large piece of artwork can not only tie the room together, but it can also make a huge statement just enough to make your bathroom look truly expensive.

For more tips on how to make your bathroom look elegant without a big price tag, click here.

Quick Guest Bedroom Makeovers

When your summer guests arrive, not only will you want to impress them but you’ll also want to make them feel right at home! In our latest post, we helped you prepare your bathroom for friends and family. Now, we’d like to inspire you to create a beautiful guest bedroom that will be tough not to love! Here are five simple ideas you can try today:

Nautical Theme. Charm your friends and family by creating a classic nautical-themed bedroom. Achieve this look by adding red, white, and blue as well as well as coastal-inspired accents, such as a sailship painting. In addition, use a wooden frame to implement texture to your colorful room.

Vintage Touch.
Bring your visitors back in time with an elegant vintage appeal. Light and breezy does it! Opt for an antique iron bed and 1950s wall art for a comfy space they will love to relax in. A rustic, wooden floor will also create the illusion of being set back in time.

Coastal Style. Get inspired by the ocean by updating your guest bed with a warm, beige and brown color scheme as well as geometrical prints. Don’t forget to incorporate a few green plants to get the feeling of being in the heart of nature.

Cozy Cottage. Build a cozy cottage using wood and soft quilts. A wood planked design from floor to ceiling and freshly picked flowers has the word ‘comfortable’ written all over it! This rustic vibe is sure to guarantee your friendly visitors a good night’s rest.

Breath of Fresh Air.
Think clean, flowy, and white. This style is perfect for a classic oasis that you and your guests will love for years to come! Feather down pillows, white linens, and sheer mosquito netting - what a better way to make friends and family feel at ease.

How to Get a Beach Themed Bathroom

You don’t need to live near the beach to decorate your bathroom with seashells and coral wallpaper. If you’ve thought about redesigning your space with coastal accents, summer is the ideal time to get inspired! Looking for some ideas to get you started? In an attempt to help, we’ve compiled a list of designs you can try now:

Walls. Make your bathroom design pop with gold colored coral prints on top of an aqua background. Don’t want to commit to wallpaper? Try using stencils to trace coral designs in the desired areas over a seafoam painted wall. Buying different sizes and shapes can add dimension and keep your eyes wandering around the room!

Mirrors. A framed mirror with seashells is a popular way to reflect a day by the shore. Shades of gold or ivory can add an elegant touch to your beach-inspired room. This statement piece will stand out just enough so that you don’t need to spend too much money on anything else!

Towels. A simple way you can achieve that summer look is to switch up the color of your towels. Do you prefer white walls? If yes, then go with aqua and sand colored ones to incorporate elements that resemble coastal living.

Wood. Looking for a more rustic feel? Driftwood or other types of worn wood is a creative way to get a beach themed bathroom. Adding a few green plants and a sign pointing you towards the beach will make you feel like you’re right on the boardwalk.

Blue. The color blue is a sure way to bring the beach into your bathroom. Not only does this hue represent the ocean, but it also brings a feeling of serenity to your space. To make that calming blue really pop, place a few sea-themed artifacts around your bathroom, like starfish wall art and window treatments.

Benefits of Moving in Summer

Did you know summer is the most popular time of year to move? With extra hours of sunlight and more family flexibility, it’s no wonder why so many homebuyers are hunting for the perfect new home. If you haven’t already thought about moving, now is the ideal time to start planning! If you’re not convinced just yet, here are four reasons you should move in the summer:

Nicer weather. Warm, sunny temperatures will make the process of moving much more seamless. You won’t have to tread through the snow and ice with heavy boxes - no need to bundle up either. You can bet that this time of year will make the entire process more pleasant for everyone involved.

Better for the children. Make the transition easier on your kids by moving when they’re off from school for the summer. Give your children time to adjust, especially if they will be transferring to a new school. Let them make new friends over the course of the next few months and make a vacation out of it!

More daylight.  Days in the summer are longer, which means you have more time to pack up your things and move before the sun goes down. Loading and unpacking your things can take time, but if you pick up and go during longer months of the year, you’re more likely to make it a one-day trip.

Garage sale season.
Nicer weather means you can finally have that garage sale you’ve been waiting for. We all know summer is garage sale season, so whether you decide to hold our own sale or join a community sale, you’re more likely to sell those unwanted items you don’t want to take with you.

With summer vacation on the way, you might be considering a new home this season. If you’ve already talked it out with your family and you’re ready to pack your bags, why not consider Copper Square? Our Models, Design Studio & Sales Center are now open. Call today at (203)778-4800 or visit our website for more information.
